If I write, interesting record, does that count for anything? Or is it something this band has heard before. They’re actually not too bad, just really boring (but you might like it.) It could be described as hard rock with soft production which is to say, a little on the conflicted side. It has a lot to do with the singer who feels the need to hammer it to the eves on (pretty much) every track.

The sound is as a whole, unoriginal and when hard rock is unoriginal it plays like something we’ve heard a dozen or so times before. That said, there are some listenable moments in some of the tracks, but even these moments sound a tad dated. Maybe they would’ve been able to get away with something like this ten years ago, but this kind of soft-hard, rock of no identity comes off as wanting and insincere. But as I said, there are some fine moments scattered throughout the piece, but the wheels come off when the ferocity of the singer insists on making his monotonous point.

If we were all stuck in ’96, then this might be considered a success (I mean Matchbox 20 had some hits and they suck.) But this is 2008 and in certain musical circles this is considered a good thing.
