In my distorted view of reality at least, it appears that a lot of these bands trying to mix rock and techno end up sounding like a half assed early Public Image Limited. And don’t get me wrong PiL made some awesome music, in fact PiL was all around quite awesome. Some of that early stuff was really amazing, and Flowers of Romance, just a swell album. However why would I want to hear it rehashed and weakly done?

Okay, okay maybe I'm supposed to enjoy listening to things I like over and over and over and over again, and maybe to make it cooler I'm supposed to listen to new bands that sounds the same so I don't seem hopelessly outdated and worthless, but you know I'd just rather listen to the original, or at least a cover band or something. Like all those old country and rockabilly artists did tons of covers, but it was all good, because they added their own distinctions rather than trying to rwe-write a song so they could call it their own, you can own it by musical ability too.

Even taking a melody and re-using it is okay, but it needs to be for a reason, like stealing a melody then call yourself original, not so good. Stealing it because you are a poor songwriter and admitting well yeah but it worked with my lyrics okay. When it comes to bands using fancy technology I don't know if it's quite the same thing though. Like copying experimental music seems lazy, when it’s 20 plus years alter and thus easier to do.

Okay that is a bit of a detour, but I cant help it sometimes, alright? Sometimes I just need a little round trip to make the point more interesting, since it isn't really a very interesting or useful point.. What I want to listen to is something full assed.

Fortunately 65daysofstatic, does not fall into this trap – half assed redundancy I mean – it actually sounds like they genuinely respect and understand what works about the genres they are pillaging, rather than just trying to make themselves stand out as the new coolest thing. And so the first part of this column was really quite pointless, ha ha you read it. Like they are really trying to carve out something new and inspired.

It reminds me of something though and I can't think of what, or maybe it's just the industrial style infusion of guitars, synth noises, and techno beats. Really it's rather enjoyable though. They sort of take break beats then mix it with some dronish/shoe gazer type guitar. Well maybe a little heavier than shoe gazer, at times almost metal riffish. At time it makes me think of post rock, but that kind of freak out thing, you know where the songs get fast and jam out for a few minutes, as opposed to the ambient parts.

And there are bits of vocal sampling that are kind of neat. That seems to be a bit of trend that has fallen out of style recently the sampling in of movie snippets, or speeches or whatever. Or maybe it's just me, takes me back to the time that everyone was doing that. I don't know if that was really cool or really lame, but it does work here.

I’m gonna go out o on a limb here and say that I liked it. I like samples from movies and such, hey it can't hurt to just throw them in here and there. Why not right? I mean at least texturally it adds something to a song. Well okay it can be overdone, but here it isn't okay that's all I'm trying to say. Okay. 65daysofstatic good.
