Celestia

Paragon, 2008

Celestia doesn’t fuck around trying to create a mood or build an album. This album just kicks right in, right to a blackened evil core. Yeah evilcore, I’m sure that is a genre of music by now. Perfect Death Metal with the evil satanic voices screaming. Heavy drums, a drone like guitar and an overall intensity.

Surprisingly, though, Celestia is fairly melodic, even if all the songs are pure harsh metal evil, they have some nice hooks to them. Hell – if I could understand any of the vocals I might be tempted even to sing along. It’s kind of pretty even at times. Maybe that just makes it that much more evil. Lulls you in with a pretty melody then spits bile in your face for being such a fool.

Well it says here they’ve been around for a while so I guess you develop that sort of style after a while, perhaps even a boredom with making the same intense song, over and over again, so you need the changes in order to keep your level of evil up. Okay well I don’t really know what to say about death metal, it’s death metal. It’s vile and evil. And incredibly intense. Sort of has the type of vocals that make paint peel, and that is a good thing.

Well not just musically, but also could turn out to be really useful in household renovations too. But yeah that kind of sonic squeal. Just overtly extreme, with this evil serpent like singer, I think he’s totally brutal. Probably would kill you just because you had some skittles or something he wanted. Yes that evil sound.

To be honest though I’m having a really hard time finding words to describe it. I mean brutal, intense, evil that’s about it. And that is not a slight against the music or anything just my own poor head not really wanting to work. But yeah listen to it anyway, even if you don’t like metal – it's that kind of awesome.
