Something of an Italian cross between french avant-crooner Matthieu Boogaert and Brazillian bossa and tropicalia artists such as Jobim, Joao GIlberto, Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento and beyond. Also a touch of syrupy sweet jazz crooning thrown in for good measure. Though the music never creeps above a quiet crawl, the most lively track on In Parole Povere is probably album highlight, "Microcosmo". For the most part, just quiet classical guitar or piano with Barbieri's slick and delicate voice, though some sparing orchestration is sprinkled into the mix here and there for good measure. If you like the idea of Italian bossa and you enjoy music oh-so-silky-smooth than you'll love Joe Barbieri.
