This is a great IDM record, no ifs ands or buts, just straight up IDM. Which, to be honest, is a little jarring these days, everyone is making hybrids of hybrids, but this is pretty straightforward. Well I suppose you could come up with some meeting , but there is really no need to. Like ambient-glitch. And it would seem very nice. A lot of soft glowing ambience, with lots of interesting blips and glitches. And floating loops and all that nice stuff. And it is extremely relaxing, in fact it is so relaxing I fell asleep listening to it and woke up feeling very relaxed and like I didn’t want to do anything. Which was nice but I had a lot to do that day, so I was a little annoyed, but was it ever smooth and relaxing. And to be honest when I woke up I felt rather relaxed like nothing really mattered, and the rest of the day I was in a pretty good mood, so indeed Build Buildings is powerful stuff.
Not too glitchy, not too ambient, but instead a nice blend. Enough bizarre sound in it to keep it interesting, but not too scattered and broken, just nice listening music. Chilled out listening music to maybe read a book to, or to just sit and relax, forget about your stressful day at the office, forget about the horrible drive home, the screaming children, the annoying tourists that seem to have been everywhere for the last 2 months, the bills, the rent, evil bosses, evil customers, the devil. Yes all of it, forget everything and just take the burden off your shoulders for a little while. And just lose your way on the electronic midway. Something like that, man.
Supposedly Ben Tweel, the man behind the project, has sound colour synaesthesia, which is neurological pathways crossing, resulting in involuntary and intrinsic association of sound with hue. Yeah I stole that from his bio. And really it is just kind of neat, I mean I don’t have that so I don’t really get what difference it makes. But knowing that I’d like to imagine that this album makes me see and feel colours I n the music. I don’t think I actually do, I think it’s purely in my mind. But you know I can sort of see fuzzy tones and stuff in it. Well it’s neat anyway.
