Take a little bit of post rock and cross it with cinematic pop, and I think you might get what Immune was going for on Not Until Morning. At times jazzy, but very dour and slow. None of this is to be taken as negative criticism of course, as it works quite nicely. A very sad release, even if it does remind me of a lot of other things. trying very hard to be introverted and emotional, and actually succeeding. And I mean sad as in depressing not sad as in pathetic, though I suppose there is some pathos here… you get what I mean.
Some nice mellowed type psychedelic. Like in that acoustic, I don’t know what way. You know with that like weird trippy organ that people use, punctuating certain places. With the sort of tripped out, at times shoegazer like guitar. Just remember it is very slow, slow cinematic psychedelic, with lots of sad vocals, and an emotional level too it which really just catches you and pulls you right in, right in to mind of Immune. And you really start feeling their sadness.
And oddly enough there is a lot of musical droning sort of underlying everything. Just holding the whole album together, which is actually pretty cool. At times even having a breaking quality to it, almost misplaced sound, but it still works. Even the couple of missteps which fall a little too far into melodramatic pop don’t really hurt the album. Which honestly I’m a little surprised about as I’m pretty sensitive to bad tracks, but I suppose it’s not really that they are bad, just too dramatic, trying a little hard to be too emotional, which just ends up kicking the song.
I mean don’t get me wrong still listenable tracks just a tad too much melodrama for me, and me, I like downer music. Just too much of the I’m a sad puppy lost my way kind of shit, is too much for me. Nothing wrong with love lost, love found lyrics, but too much poor me and it gets irritating. But yeah as I said just a couple of those tracks, and they really don’t spoil the album so believe me listen to it, love it, whatever.
