Munk is really weird. It’s sort of a house/disco project, but it’s grittier than that. In fact it reminds me a lot of that early 90s industrial trend of the bands making the sort of funky metally music, but not that harsh as there are moments of pure disco cheese in it. And sort of horror film diverges. Epic builds. Very cheesy piano/synth/electric/flute/etc melodies.
Makes me think in a lot of ways of My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, but then again not really. I don’t really know what to make of it. I mean it’s pretty cool, and has some really great rhythms to it, but jeez. It sounds hopelessly outdated and totally modern at the same time. The most corny disco you could imagine, but then gritty and punky at the same time… Makes you want to dance but kind of rocks out. And I think this is something I really shouldn’t like, but I kind of do.
The best tracks by far however are the ones with guest vocalist Asia Argento, they have these really creepy vocals saying nonsense thrown into this mess. Argento just oozes creepiness, at least here anyway. Actually now that I think about it I don’t really know if I ‘ve seen her in a movie, I mean here daddy made some pretty freaked out cool movies, but I’m not sure what she has been in. I mean the creepiness of Dario’s movies is enough to say everything, but I just don’t know.
I don’t think I should like Cloud Buster at all, but I find myself really enjoying it… I think that might be a little weird. Maybe I just don’t knew what my tastes are anymore. But yeah. Good it is. I can admit that. I can admit I really enjoy it, then again I did quite enjoy some of those old sleazy disco infused albums that industrial bands where putting out for a while, so I suppose it is only natural. I mean, right? I don’t know. Discoy fun sleazy punk nonsense, all rolled together. What a world this is.
