Appealing to all scopes of electronica, this release from Nite Club, the baby of instrumentalist Richard Spitzer, is approachable from the terrain of most musical tastes. The big tent project brings in facets of indie-rock, easy electro and hip-hop genres to compile a strong hour-long product. Powerful for its ability to be received by most backgrounds, My Tronic is perhaps best praised for the decision to expertly walk the line between too much orchestration and too little. You could say it’s the Goldilocks of compositional layering – it’s just right.
‘National’ is one such track of sweet-center interplay between maintaining interest and disallowing its audience to become lost in the mess. Spitzer is not overly indulgent in his persona; the echo repeat mantra of ‘Let it Go’ in the later phase of the song is enough to keep me wanting more.
‘No Matter Which Way’ is another verdant piece but one that captures a softer side to Spitzer, prominently displaying serene vocal capabilities which elicit a mellow and introspective response. The break from the otherwise palpably upbeat landscape recharges listeners for another spat of night-club tracks, all of which share the common trait of a studied shine. Energy is never forgotten; when infused with the conscious deliberation of sixteen calculated tracks, the result is the stuff of fairy tales.
