Justin Beckler is like an indie version of Matchbox 20 – back when I thought they were still good, in 1996. His album, Wake Up Process, is slightly country, a pinch of rock and roll, and a whole lot of passion, which is a good recipe for a record. Justin Beckler certainly succeeded in making an acoustic record that shows off his talent as a singer/songwriter/producer and is also enjoyable to listen to.
The second song on the album “Where I Belong” is an amazingly wonderful song that demonstrates both his singing and guitar skills. His voice is slightly raspy and yet he sings very smoothly. You can feel the emotion and intensity that he is portraying through his song from his pitch and volume. His voice is accompanied by a girl’s high-pitched and sweet voice, which adds to the songs passion. This song is an extremely good representation of the album, most of which do sound slower and passionate with a concentration on his voice and lyrics.
“Gimme Your Love” is a song that is slightly darker then the rest, with more vicious guitars and his voice is deeper and harsher. I really enjoyed this song for, like all of his songs, it portrayed emotion incredibly well.
The one thing that is different in this song is it seems that the emotion portrayed here is anger and confusion, which makes for a very powerful song. The lyrics are about wanting a woman to love him and you can feel the raw emotion that he feels of being rejected.
One of the catchiest songs on the album is “Lost in the Desert”. It made me want to dance about with the fast, picked guitar and his voice sends shivers of delight up my spine. This is one of the most dynamic songs on the album at times it is very loud and other times all you can hear is his voice barely at a whisper. He really makes use of these up and downs to create a noise that keeps the listener enthralled.
Justin Beckler is an extremely talented man; he has the ability to make listeners truly feel what he is feeling through his music, which is something that can’t be said about many singer/songwriters. His record really shows how talented he is and is wonderful to just sit and listen to.
His catchy guitar and raspy voice show that he has soul enough for all of us.
