You know it's funny about Violets – you can smell one, but there's some element to the scent where it blocks itself from your nose for a bit after the first whiff. It's temporary, but the scent fades from you right away and you have to wait a little to be able to smell it again. I'm not sure what this band was thinking about their name, but it's ironically appropriate because every one of their songs shares the flower Violet's characteristic. In other words all of the songs start out great, interesting, brimming with potential and promise, and after less than a half a minute that all fades away and then I'm left with nothing.

Another hint I guess is that there is a matchbox house on the cover. So it ignites, burns nicely for a moment then extinguishes….Exactly like the music….What the hell?

Additionally there's something missing from the singer's voice. It's an unsettling kind of lack of heart. Not that the lyrics call for much emotion but the singer's voice makes me shutter because it occurs to me that this woman's voice sounds like it would be more at home scolding children than singing about….Astral-planes as in aeroplanes that fly really high up (yeah I don't know either). The same lack of guts, heart or even give a damn is in the music as well, just past the twenty second mark. I mean guitar sure, drums not bad to have, bass yes, but they can be vapid sounding or they can be full, I prefer full. These guys dig the empty gloss, which sucks for me.

The mainly acoustic sound is a hair shy of being boring so is left as annoying. Don't get me wrong I'm happy to hear nice bare guitar songs, shit, but there are great ones and bad ones and well I'm not talking former here. I'm not going to suggest what I think this band can do to be better, first off because I don't care enough to, there's not enough to work with, and second I think all this band can do is start over again.

Music does have a take it or leave it element to it, which is one of the reasons tastes change and innovation and experimentation are always happening, so I'm leaving this band behind to start with hope and end quickly in failure, song after song….
