Head Wound City is very loud, fast and in your face. They do it all in a way that makes their E.P fresh and interesting. There is a lot of feedback, fast guitar and fast drums in their music and they aren’t afraid to play loud and heavy. They vocals consist of lots of yelling from basically everyone in the band and it all fits together to form something that reminds me of music that I would play if I wanted to jump around in pit or perhaps if I was picking music for a movie fight scene.
The E.P was recorded in a week’s time, it consists of seven songs and it’s under ten minutes long. This is just the type of CD that all the kids with
ADD need to listen to. Other than the fact that it can hold the attention span of today’s youth, the CD is noteworthy as a collaboration between members of a few bands: The Locust, The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs and the Blood Brothers. They wanted to just make a hard, thrashing album, and they succeeded.
It’s hard to talk about the songs individually because they are over so quickly. The opening song “Radical Friends” sets the mood for the rest of the album. Beginning with forty-seven seconds of feedback, it is then unleashed with a throng of heavy guitar, drums and lyrics being heard over them. The song fizzles out at the end, only to jump into the next song which is even heavier and louder then the previous.
I really enjoyed this EP. Head Wound City has done an excellent job of making a record that people will be able to thrash to. They uphold the punk tradition of playing fast songs that are a minute and a half long maximum. This is the perfect EP to head-bang to while you are driving, or put it on at a party if you want your living room destroyed by reckless dancing.
