I don’t know if anything that I could say would do the sound of Seth Kauffman justice; he is easy to listen to, yet fun. Not overproduced, yet sounds well put together. He is catchy without getting stuck in your head and is something that I would recommend for someone of any age category. A slightly mature sound with lots of tambourine and slightly off-pitch vocals that work so wonderfully with everything else. Ting, is an album that both my dad and I can enjoy together, which believe you me does not come along very often.
The opening song “Get Your Love Stole” is very funky and melodic; with slow beats and a casual feel that just welcome you into its loving arms. Seth’s voice soothes the listener and makes them feel all warm and easy going. He
is one of those artists who sounds familiar yet without sound like anyone in particular but still gives you that feeling of comfort when listening to it. It’s a great opening song because it really puts you at ease and makes you want to listen to the rest of the record to see what other emotions might ensue.
“Jug Hustler Blues” is, as the title suggests, a very bluesy, twangy song complete with harmonica. It has a wonderful beat that is wonderfully catchy and fun to listen to. The fast moving song allows the listener to see all that Seth is capable of, which is clearly more than just the slower paced, melodic music like most of the songs on the record.
Seth Kauffman really shows off his musical abilities on the album: he played all the instruments, wrote, produced, engineered and recorded all of the music and did an amazing job at it. He is able to show off his many musical instrument talents such as guitar, violin, percussion and practically anything else under the sun. He has a very laid back feel and it seems as if he doesn’t even need to try to get the soothing, flowing rhythms. This is an amazing CD especially for other musicians that can appreciate the hard work and determination it must have taken to produce this lo-fi masterpiece. Ting is an album this is timeless and could be played in practically any situation for anybody and I am sure that they would enjoy it immensely.
