When I was handed this disc the case still smelled of Sharpie marker from the hand-drawn cover and I found it hard to read the title of the CD. When I put it into my stereo, though, I realized that Ten Percent Animal’s first attempt at musical triumph was not in vain. The Asian Haze E.P is fun and catchy and combines many different musical aspects in each one of its songs.
The opening song, “Unik”, has fun beats and enjoyable background noises. I am all for layers in my music and this song definitely kept my ears on alert for different sounds. The lyrics are cute and the two boys in the band sound like they are having fun with what they are doing. The lyrics are full of expression, which is often something that is lacking in music that is meant to be fun and lighthearted. I enjoyed this song a lot and it reminded me of the fun antics of MGMT.
The songs on Ten Percent Animal’s Asian Haze, are all fun and full of synth and youthful quirks. I liked this E.P maybe a bit more then I should have because I do have a soft spot for music that is pure fun and doesn’t sound too serious. Not that their musical talent shouldn’t be taken seriously, for these boy do know what they are doing and they are doing it well. This is something I would put on before I went out for a night of dancing, just so I could warm up and have a smile on my face all night.
