On High School Reunion a mix of better and lesser known artists try their hands at classics like "Somebody's Baby", "American Girl", "Weird Science" and all the other favourites. Artists of note include The Dresden Dolls, Frank Black, Kristin Hersh, and Matthew Sweet.
The quality varies from brilliant versions of classic songs to middle-of-the-road misfires - such is perhaps the inevitable curse of the tribute compilation.
Dresden Dolls do a killer version of "Pretty In Pink", John Strohm's "Somebody's Baby" is great. Not surprisingly, the lesser known artists turn in the less noteworthy versions on the album.
A fun romp through a decade of great films for those of us old enough to remember....
