The guys in Job For A Cowboy are a bunch of high school kids from Arizona, but fuck, they are tight and insane. I'm no expert on death metal or "breakdown-driven metalcore" two genres name-dropped in their bio- I've been listening to a lot of black metal and sludge mainly this past while – but I know a killer band when I hear it: Job For A Cowboy will blow away fans of thrash and metal.
Retardedly fast blast beats, super technical guitar riffs – including some nice harmony lines that will make Maiden fans smile, and awesomely evil vocals that at times sound an awful like that croaking parrot from Hatebeak. At times too, however rare, the singer breaks into fairly comprehensible singing, and it's kind of surprising and refreshing.
The production is very high-fi compared to all that Norwegian metal – no trebley buzzing guitars here – and the album sounds HEAVY. The album cover, too, has a very slick sheen, and was designed by Job For A Cowboy vocalist Jonny – his very cool artwork graces the website too.
Despite their youth, they've already played shows with name bands like As I Lay Dying, and Dillinger Escape Plan and they'll be heading out on tour soon. Check them out if you have the stomach for their brutal, crushing assault. And if not, you sociopaths like me can stay home and check out Doom.
