Straightforward album of sleazy riffy hard rock metal from Toronto's Kill Cheerleader. They claim to have been such bad boys at live shows that they got blacklisted in their hometown and had to move to LA , which is where any band in their scene probably wants to be from anyway.
Some nice harmony guitars, lots of attention to style, not enough enough attention to melody or lyrics - of course the vocals are so low in the mix that you may not notice it.
The riffs at times sound a bit like Maiden, on one song there's some of that secret agent man Agent Orange stuff going on too.
Maybe if I thought of this as punk it would sound and not metal it would sound much more impressive.... It's devoid of the politics and anger of punk but it's also devoid of the outrageous glamminess of metals so hard to say what exactly they're aiming at.
Not as good or funny and outrageous as Thunderlip, who are going down a fairly similar road, but pretty competent. To their credit, Kill Cheerleader would make you want to drink your motherfucking face off at a wild house party which I guess means that they're serving their purpose.
