I've never really understood remix albums - either I don't know the song and can't hear the transformation or I do know the song and it gets too totally obliterated that it's totally unrecognizable.
It's a great pleasure then that Ghislain Poirier has changed my mind with his brilliant new remix album, Bounce Le Remix. Bounce is a collection of familiar tracks from Neneh Cherry, Missy Elliot, Dizzee Rascal, Busta Rhymes, Roots Manuva, Snoop Dogg, Ying Yang, Lady Fury, M.I.A. and Poirier's recent tour mate Lady Sovereign.
Poirier has done brilliant remixes in is legendary 'Bounce Le Gros' style, replete with ridiculously deep bass and slamming beats. He breathes new life into well-worn recent hits such as Dizzee's "Fix Up, Look Sharp" and Missy's "I'm A Bitch" and he's not afraid to revisit a classic like "Buffalo Stance".
Best tracks? My vote is for Snoop Dogg - Poirier keeps Snoop's smooth and classy style intact and the Dizzee Rascall track where he removes the edgy agitated quality and brings a mellow slow sexy vibe to the track.
Poirier's goal seems to be to get the girls shaking the big asses their mothers gave them – his Bounce Le Gros philosophy – and Bounce Le Remix will definitely get that happening. Highly recommended! Your woofers will never forgive you.
