Not what one might expect from Olympia - home of bespectacled indie kids and socially awesome Riot Grrlls, the Old Haunts have stand apart from the crowd with their ballsy, bluesy garage rock and roll. You could think of the Old Haunts as the blue-collar garage rock version of Frog Eyes - the singer has a demented intensity that is not entirely unlike Carey Mercer's crazed wailings, and the music has a sort of old-world carnivalesque bounce as well.
Produced at Avast! by Johnny Sangster known for his work with The Makers and Mudhoney, the album has an excellent, rich sound that makes me question the sanity of calling this garage rock at all. It's just that they're so damn rough and tumble... Ok let's just call it rock and bloody roll and leave it at that. This makes me want to drink a PBR.
