Well-known electronic artist Kid606 serves us a feverish techno album – the “Fun, Fun, and more Fun” Pretty Girls Make Raves.

The album starts off with “Let it rock”, with fast-paced sampling and joyous cheering. It’s followed with the graver tones and more bass heavy “Chicken fight”. Throughout the track, the smooth transitioning between sounds creates a fluid and entrancing vibe. “Boomin’” is bouncing fun, but with a very repetitive beat that quickly gets old.

The next three tracks are best described as raging robotic songs, though “Meet me at the bottom” is still enjoyable, if you don’t mind the screechy screaming. Following these tracks, “Yet down low” sounds like the beginning of a Basement Jaxx song, where one waits in vain for the real kick-off.

The song I liked the most on Pretty Girls Make Raves is the spacey “Oakland High Siding”. The soft sounds and slower pace are very different from the rest of the album. I would have preferred an album with more songs like these. Still, Kid606 is a talented artist that creates a good ‘rave’ album, but with a sometimes repetitive and aggressive sound.
