Through a thick fog of smoke in a musty NYC dive, you’ll find K. Page and the Sleepwalker’s Parade wailing neo-beatnik verse over swinging guitar, bass, and drums. At least, that’s the image Green City evokes.

The album shines in its reshaping of Patti Smith-style poetics: Green City blends experimental jazz, rock, and classical influences behind Page’s sometimes sweet, sometimes dark, but always passionate, crooning.

There are moments when Page wanders a little too far into an arid abyss of free verse, abandoning the average listener like a drunken Jim Morrison rant. But that’s rare. The lyrics are strong with poignant, at times uniquely peculiar, images of devotion, trepidation, and politics.

Highlights, “Long Distance Swimmer” and “Naked and Naïve”, are worth checking out for those yearning for a fresh take on the classic poet-rocker style. .
