Horn-driven, orchestral indie-rock from... I guess Berlin? I haven't a fricking clue what these guys are singing about, but it sounds sweet and soft in a vaguely twee kind of way. For us English-speakers, though. it's not the words on Kajak that are important. It's the majestic soaring horn melodies that will win and woo fans of Van Dyke Parks, Beulah, ye olde Elephant Sixers, Jim O'Rourke and any of the smarter-than-thou composers who for god knows what reason choose to sully themselves in the filthy filthy world of rock and roll when they could be composing grand arias for kings and noblemen. Gently rollicking acoustic guitars, shambling, easygoing percussion, this record's got it all. If you don't mind not having a clue what a singer is saying - and I suspect less and less people care these days – this is hIghly recommended.
