The new compilation put together by Nouvelle Vague features pieces from French film soundtracks with legendary artists such as Gato Barbieri, Lalo Schifrin, Michel Legrand, Nino Rota, Serge Gainsbourg, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ennio Morricone, Vangelis and many more.

Just so you know, I really loved the first Nouvelle Vague album so when I heard I would be reviewing this  CD, I was very excited to get it in my headphones. To appreciate good music, you should always first listen to it in good headphones, so you get to hear all of  the wonderful details!

Nouvelle Vague albums always take a few styles and manipulate them so it can catch your ear whether you like the styles or not. Of course this compilation starts with a grand entrance. Tango: saxophone, piano, so much rhythm and chanting, these compilations are always good to have in your musical library. The music is upscale and always feels like a time capsule. I don’t know who wouldn’t like something this upbeat and catchy!

It’s always hard to comment on a style I am not so familiar with but all I can really say is, do I like it or no? It’s pretty clear that I do! The playing style always has such swagger and sexiness to it. I would say if this music were the sound track to someone’s life, they would be a super fabulous person all of the time… how could you not be?

The record is strong right through featuring a fantastic array of sounds from ballads to show music to Bossa Nova. It’s like a Las Vegas vacation. If you’re a fan of jazz in any facet, this is a nice album to have. It’s a delicious salad of the jazz family and it’s unrelenting with style and class.
