What does Whomadewho the band have in common with the famed 1986 song by AC/DC? Not much! I have to wonder what the intentions of the trio, who’re signed to the Munich label Gomma, intended when they came up with their band name – a puzzling and minimalist inquiry into the nature of being? Nonetheless, there is something Whomadewho that teleports you back and forth between "then" and "now", between old-school disco and electronica, making it a congruent and enjoyable listening experience.

Who Made Who exudes the sexual beat-building tension of the disco era and gels it seamlessly with the DJ-era of electronica. The opening introduces an Electric Six-sounding beat that ties the whole album together. Even when the album digresses into instrumental spacey gaps, this primal beat will always bring you back to earth and remind you to dance.

The vocals on Whomadewho are reminiscent of Beck and Blur’s David Albarn. I also heard someone suggest that the melody, chord change and reverb in the vocals reminded them of solo John Lennon! They add an interesting extra dimension to the instrumental jambalaya that mostly consists of heavy bass guitar, drum machine and analog synthesizer.

The curve balls are what make this album different; occasional accordion playing and country strains add variety to the soundscape without rupturing continuity. The sound benefits from what has been called a Franz Ferdinand quality. On top of all this electronic studio wizardry, Whomadewho are rumored to put on an amazing live show.
