Migrating Bird is a beautiful tribute to English folksinger Lal Waterson, out now on Honest Jon’s Records. The 19-track compilation features a slew of great artists covering Waterson’s beautiful folk songs. Waterson wrote in the traditional British Isles folk style and so her sound will appeal to other British Isles folk singers such as Shirley Collins.
Artists paying tribute to Waterson here include Vashti Bunyan, Richard Youngs, Michael Hurley, Victoria Williams and many more perhaps lesser known but equally talented singers. Every song is a highlight so there’s no point in singling anything song out - this album is beautiful from start to finish.
I’m generally not a fan of tribute albums so when I say this is very highly recommended, that’s really saying something. This is a first-rate album and serves as a great introduction to the songs of Lal Waterson.
