An easy listening album that, like a ghost, is trying to whisper to the listeners of its music but instead is passed by because of its too soft sounding, light, non-chalant voice. It contains an interesting combination of instruments that, despite sounding 'easy listening', cannot be dismissed as elevator music.
The album becomes something of ‘musique actuelle’ on ‘Blank Staircase’. It keeps up with its suspenseful, playful mood, even venturing into phasing on “Gather your Wits”, where I must say, phasing has never sounded this relaxed! Some instruments sound like cheap MIDI sounds; I wonder if there was a sense of humor involved in crafting the album. But even then, somehow keyboard flutes and voices do not seem as bad and are perfectly bearable as part of the mix on the album.
