This is a tight, hard-rock record, though I’m sure to some other ears I’m sure it’s punk rock - it just doesn’t sound as though it’s trying to be punk but something much more interesting and unique which is what it ends up as. In places it has a serious Led Zeppelin feel that put a smile on my face (and I think that’s a pretty fair compliment.) It certainly starts with a clang and continues to bang all the way through. It’s as if something profoundly post-punk is going on here with tonal hues of pop.
Simple, tight licks with just the right amount of distortion (to the guitar) and hard edge to the vocal. Easily one of the best post Husker Du records I’ve heard since, oh I don’t know, The Living End. The lead guitar appears to live in a place all its own, consistently steering the band to the musical edge not normally associated with a band that plays this fast and hard. And that’s a very good thing. It comes highly recommended.
