Fingered DVD Zine Winter Spring 2008

Fingered DVD Zine Winter Spring 2008

Released 2008

Fingered is a periodical DVD zine that focuses in each edition on a different local scene. The Winter/Spring 2008 edition focuses on the vibrant Montreal noise rock and art scene and features a variety of interview, concert performances, short film and and art exhibits.

An interview with Chloe and Yannick from AIDS Wolf/Seripop sheds light on how the acclaimed poster duo and notorious noise rock band got their start, how they found quick success and the community that they inhabit in Montreal. Also featued is footage of AIDS Wolf in gloriously screamy ear-bleeding action. Other bands featured include Dreamcatcher and the mind-numbing free-psyche-jazz-noise of Panopticon Eyelids. David Lafrance, Natalile Reis, Jacinthe Loranger present their artwork and ex-Vancouver neo-goth-freak-rocker Dandi Wind collaborates on a short abstract film that made me think of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring - this in collaboration with John Londono.

All in all some interesting stuff. I think the formula could be improved on by taking a look at the social aspects of the scene and the street life and show culture and food and drink culture, etc and perhaps by offering a more movie-like experience where chapters skip from one to the next. If the Montreal edition is any indicator, It would be interesting to have the whole Fingered collection and see how it progresses from city to city. I should also mention that it comes in a handmadey looking package with a cute little screenprinted zip up vinyl bag.
