This is one of those pesky "sample" Mp3's which I generally would never post on Left Hip, but this track - and Columbia! The Golden Age of Discos Fuentes, the album from which it comes - are so insane that you have to hear it. It will make you want to get this record, guaranteed.
The best band on the planet continues to outdo themselves. Slated for a September 11th release on new label Dead Oceans, Dirty Projectors' newest album, Rise Above is a reimagining of Black Flag's seminal Damaged. Like the paintings of the brilliant Toronto painter Shary Boyle, Rise Above was created entirely from memory by the Projector's Dave Longstreth, with all the diversions and differences that such an endeavor entails. If live versions of tunes like Rise Above and Police Story are any indication, not to mention this track are anything to go by this is going to be one of the hottest records of the year, and a totally awesome mind-fuck for Black Flag fans.
Hard-hitting black metal - hey, after all, it's called "Blackfist" - from US black metal band Charnel Valley, whose new album, The Igneous Race is out now on Paragon Records.
An excerpt from Robeboor's "Plague of Settlers" on the new Pocahaunted/Robedoort split, "Hunted Gathering" on Digitalis.
A pretty song from the forthcoming Hello Blue Roses album set for release January 2008 on Locust Music. The band, featuring Dan Bejar of Destroyer and his partner Sydney Hermant, on this track has a sound that speaks highly of the 1980's, but also manages to stay true to the feel of Destroyer. Nice stuff.
A track from the new Soul Merchants reissue on Smooch Records, 1985-1987 .
