Songs
This brilliant pop song appears on the marvellous Le Pop 3 compilation of music from the new French pop scene. This is one of the best songs on the album, but they're all really incredible. Highly recommended! The song is also the title track from the new Bertrand Betsch album!
High-fashion math and science nerd rap sound appealing? Then you'll probably be tickled pink by Anna Oxygen's fun brand of electro hip-hop pop.
Motivational feel-good rap music for nerds. From
Beyond Reinforced Jewelcase on Kill Rock Stars. Brilliant!
A track off the brilliant new Malaventura album, Ruidos + Pianos.
One of the best songs off of what is possibly the best album of 2005 from one of the finest new artists out there.
A track off the incredible new Earth album,
Hex, Or Printing in the Infernal Method. Music to die to in the desert.
Pathways are my favorite straight up old school indie rock band at the moment. Echoes of Pavement, with crazy guitar parts worthy of Polvo and pretty, pretty melodies. Another killer album from Recommended If You LIke Records. Check out our review this month!
The Lucksmiths are once again a Matinee Records twee band that sound a lot like Billy Bragg. So good. So good. If you like indiepop you probably already love The Lucksmiths, if you don't know them you're doing your happy heart a disservice.
The Happy Couple are yet another devastatingly beautiful Matinee Records band. For fans of old school British-sounding twee – although The Happy Couple are actually a San Francisco band – it doesn't get much better than this.
The Divorce is the perfect band for people who love John Huges films. They have that anthemic, ecstatic feeling that you'd get at the end of those 80's teen movies when the underdogs all won out in the end. Think Psychedelic Furs and Icicle Works with a bit of pop-punk thrown in for good measure.
