David & The Citizens - Let's Not Fall Apart

David & The Citizens are a magnificent Swedish band that have a great deal of success in Europe but are virtually unknown in America. They've recently been picked up in the US by Friendly Fire who have just released a best-of-so-far compilation to prime US audiences for their Friendly Fire new full-length due later this year. Here's a great song from that compilation!

Sonya Cotton - Desert Bloom

Her recent album Baltimore Trees is SO BEAUTIFUL and her golden voice graces the new Bland Allisons album as well. This is an artist to watch out for. A voice that sends tingles down your spine, melts and breaks your heart in the same phrase.

The Kyle Sowashes - Pitchforks

Charming old-school indie rock from Dayton, OH. Takes it back to the glorious days of lo-fi for those of us old to remember.

Thanksgiving - Deer

I was too lazy to head across town the other night to see Thanksgiving even though my friend Jenn was working the door and probably would have let me in for free. But that's no indication of my lack of appreciation for this awesome band - it's just that Vancouver is.... Vancouver. Cold cold rain and ultimate lethargy. But enough about me, check out this wicked song from one of Portland, Oregon's finest.

Figurines - The Wonder

Denmark's Figurines are dropping their first US released, Skeleton right about now. For fans of Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, Strokes, and The Feelings there's nothing finer. This is a typically awesome high-energy track from the album.

Tony Ezzy - Swing Down Sweet Chariot

Tony Ezzy is a brilliant Montreal keyboard player who over the last number of years has been fronting bands that vary from Gap Band-style funk to middle-eastern tinged ragtime rap crossover. Now he's on a heavy gospel trip - and don't take it as a novelty - this guy apparently has a degree in religious studies from McGill. Whatever this guy touches turns to gold.

R. Stevie Moore - Positively 4th Street

What with the renewed interest in Dylan of late, here's R. Stevie Moore's take on Positively 4th Street. For fans of Ariel Pink.

Earthride - Fighting The Devils Inside You

This is the absolute motherfucking scummiest, sleaziest, heaviest, sludgiest sludge-rock anywhere. Essential listening for fans of Sabbath, Boris, Motorhead, and all whiskey-drenched riders of badass motorbikes. Their new album, Vampire Circus is out now on the mighty Southern Lord!

The Coffin Lids - I'm Going To Have My Way With The 5, 6, 7, 8's

Left Hip writer Ron Kirsch has warned readers that "The Coffin Lids are here to burn up your town, fuck your girlfriends, and drink your booze, all while you smile stupid at how damn far ahead of the curve they are." Ron has labeled this tribute to Japanese garage-cuties the 5, 6, 7, 8's a whole new-genre: 'Stalker Surf'. Watch out!

Bertrand Betsch - Pas De Bras, Pas De Chocolat

This brilliant pop song appears on the marvellous Le Pop 3 compilation of music from the new French pop scene. This is one of the best songs on the album, but they're all really incredible. Highly recommended! The song is also the title track from the new Bertrand Betsch album!
