The Shondes - Make It Beautiful

by

Vaguely retro-eighties-alternative sounding female rock. Really cool, I haven’t heard anything else that hearkens back to this particular sound.

More exotic, globetrotting electronic pop sounds from LA’s Rainbow Arabia.

Shunda K - Tired Of Bullshit

by

Female hip hop from Austin. The vocals remind me a bit of Scream Club, who do some collaboration with Shunda K. Shunda K also toured with Peaches, and there’s some similarity there as well.

Jesus Makes The Shotgun Sound - Do Not The Clothes Make The Man?

by

Nice complex sound with elements of goth’s high drama, electronic gurgles, very psychedelic/ritualistic and the California desert the band calls home.

Blasfemea - Maria

Electronic pop from Portugal.

A Weather - Third of Life

by

Pretty indie rock song from Portland indie rock band A Weather, hailing from Portland, Oregon. Pretty male/female vocal mix.

Primal Static - Waking Shadows

by

Catchy psyche/garage rock sound on top of cheap drum machine beats. Really unique infectious sound from this Baltimore duo consisting of a self-describe American acid-garage guitarist and a classically trained Chinese pianist/bassist.

Berry - Out

by

Chicago indie rock, reminds me of Beulah a bit, with some Bobby Conn disco weirdness.

Richard McGraw - Hurting Heart

by

Pretty good pop singer/songwriter from Brooklyn. He claims to be following in the steps of Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and Lou Reed: I don’t know if I buy it based on this song… but it is a pretty killer pop song regardless.

Free The Robot - Orion’s Beltbuckle

by

Sweet little piece of electronic/hip-hop from LA with warm, fuzzy, demented synths.

Olney Clark - Josefin The Writer

by

Echoes of Nick Drake in this experimental/orchestral pop duo.

Red Pens - Hung Out

by

This Minneapolis duo is marketing itself as a revival of the Mats blue collar rock. I don’t really hear that at all, but this is still a pretty sweet nosiy indie pop song.

Thee American Revolution - Powerhouse

by

Robert Schneider’s new “heavy-psyche” project. Killer song.

Man/Miracle - Hot Sprawl

by

LastFM tags this as highlife, which makes me think this is trying to latch onto what I guess is now a big bullshity trend. Still… it sounds good, the vocal remind me more of Bono than anything African, although the guitars definitely are trying to sound African – or at least like other indie rock bands that have been mining that sound lately.

Nocando - Hurry Up And Wait

by

Great use of negative space. I don’t listen to much hip hop so maybe that’s no big deal these days – but it sounds new to me and pretty cool. Very cool minimal production too.
